Historically Black Colleges and Universities

The JC Hines College Bus Tour Board of Directors humbly submits to our constituents — families, students, and other related persons — our defined purpose for our concentration on HBCUs.

“In Title III of the Higher Education Act of 1965, Congress officially defined an HBCU as a school of higher learning that was accredited and established before 1964, and whose principal mission was the education of African Americans. HBCUs offer culture, a rich history and rigorous academic programs. Most importantly, they prepare students for leadership and life after graduation.”

Brief history of HBCUs

This is our motivation and while we acknowledge that things educationally have changed for black Americans in the matter of choices, the HBCUs’ objectives have not for over 150 years. They still reflect integrity, hard work, strength, honesty, and goal-directed activities for our children, and our board of directors, suffice to say stands firmly with them. Given our newly developed website, it is our intention to have potential students who view our site choose the state and educational institutions we visit each year. While the Board of Directors retains the executive power to change or modify the selected colleges based on cost and other related expenses, it is our prayer that you the participants and readers of this notification comprehend and agree with these statements as we move to secure a future for our organization and students. To this end, our board says, “Thank you.
